Nutrition & Fitness

At Grossman Wellness we believe physical movement an important part of every patient’s day. For some, movement will come in the form of getting up to walk the halls or taking the time to walk to work, along with a gentle 30 minute gentle after-work routine of walking and/or stretching. Other patients may be seeking more: training tips, nutrition tips, and the latest in sports physiology. At Grossman Wellness we have three sports nutrition staff on board who can help you to create a movement plan that meets your needs and health goals.

It’s bizarre that the produce manager is more important to my children’s health than the pediatrician.

What is Functional Medicine?

Our Nutrition Team

At Grossman Wellness our approach to health goes beyond simply treating signs and symptoms or the “pill-for-every-ill” mentality. Rather we look at your health from a forward-thinking functional medicine paradigm that digs deeper into the root cause of your symptoms.

We see illness as an outward sign of a deeper imbalance within the body.  Such imbalance, we believe, is caused by underlying core dysfunctions or root causes. By identifying, addressing and treating deeper root causes, we can help you return to balance, reversing overt disease symptoms or avoiding illness entirely.

The adage, “tip of the iceberg,” provides insight into this functional medicine ethos.  For instance, your outward signs and symptoms—weight gain, acne, headaches, diabetes, arthritis, cancer, etc. — represent the upper, floating part of an iceberg.  Below the surface, however, lurks an even larger entity. At Grossman Wellness, our doctors understand this same picture applies to your health.  We dive deep and explore the underlying reasons symptoms at the surface are being expressed.  Reasons could include (but are not limited to) poor diet, exposure to toxins, physical activity, genetic predispositions low grade infections, physical or emotional trauma, stressors from environment, life, or emotions.   Such root causes typically lead to core dysfunction, chiefly inflammation, digestive disorders, hormonal imbalance, immune weaknesses, oxidative stress, among others.

According to the Institute for Functional Medicine, this approach is, “an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses healthcare needs of the 21st century.”  We couldn’t agree more. Our team of doctors, registered nurses, nutritionists, patient care coordinators, and support staff make us well positioned to meet your medical concerns and health goals. Working with you to achieve your best health, we will help treat your symptoms in a clinical, science-based setting while simultaneously establishing a therapeutic patient-practitioner partnership that honors your unique needs and health history.  We look forward to helping you achieve optimal health and wellness.
